The most evocative ensemble act I’ve choreographed
was for Sinner Saint’s show Sexual
Revolution. The piece was about shame. I wanted the audience to experience
two minutes where they could feel freed from body shame and sexual shame.
The process became a tremendous artistic and personal challenge. While I’d spent hundreds of hours revealing my body on stage as I portrayed various characters, this piece was about me. It would reveal my insecurities, flaws, judgments and shame. It would reveal my story of body love. The act brought me, the audience, and performers to tears each night. |
I don’t know about you, but I am my own worst critic.
I would never be as critical toward others as I am toward myself. I would never
question someone’s life purpose, dreams, or worthiness of receiving love the
way I do my own. What this act taught me was that while I’m my own biggest
critic, I can also be my own biggest fan.
How do you become your biggest fan? And what's more, how do you...
Commit to a practice of self-care and self-love. Commit to it as fiercely as you commit to self-improvement and self-criticism. Become obsessed with seducing yourself. Self-love is about asking yourself what you want and need every day, and then prioritizing receiving it. It is about taking responsibility for believing in your worthiness. Self-love is what unravels the fabric internalized oppression.
Great! Where do I buy a bottle?! While I can’t tell you where to buy a bottle, I can tell you how to practice becoming irresistible to yourself. Like so many romances, it starts with a love letter.
Sound terrifying? That's what falling head-over-heels in love feels like. Exhilarating, restless, breathless. Deep sighs of contentment and a stuttering heartbeat.
Be wild. Forget your inhibitions. Forget permission. Forget all the reasons it won't work, and believe in the once voice that says it will. Follow your desires. Seduce YOURSELF. Give yourself a Love Slam.
How do you become your biggest fan? And what's more, how do you...
- Fall feverishly, breathlessly, restlessly in love with yourself?
- Spend long nights awake swooning over how you're unable to resist falling in love with yourself?
- Experience heart explosions, sighs of deep contentment, sexy soul seduction, and love-soaked magic?

Today, write a love letter to your 20-year-old self.
Tell her all the ways that she’s irresistible. Give her credit for the risks
she’s taken, for the failures rebounded from, and for all that she’s learned.
Applaud her for caring so much, for daring to dream, and for getting her hands
dirty.
Then, read your love letter out loud, like this... |
