Burlesque for the Boardroom is where business, politics and pleasure join forces to show the world what women’s leadership looks like on women’s terms. So, how do you bring sexy into the office? On stage I aim to be as sexy as possible, but in the office I’ve tended to intentionally desexualize myself. There are a few of my reasons for this...
I don’t want to attract unwanted attention. It’s uncomfortable when someone finds me attractive who I don’t reciprocate emotions or a desire for. I don’t want to hurt their feelings by turning them down. The “she’s asking for it,” “she’s desperate for attention,” and “she’s slutty for using her sex appeal to get her way” stories are all present. Another prevailing story is that if I am attractive or trying to be sexy, that it’s for the consumption of men, or that if I’m sexy I won’t be taken seriously. It is difficult for women to be seen as sexual and intellectual beings. I intend to change all this. What are the new stories I want to write? Here’s a sample: |
When I feel sexy, I’m doing it for me and only me. My sexuality is not for the consumption of anyone else. Being sexy makes me smart, because I am in tune with my life force energy. There is nothing vulgar, disgusting, dirty or shameful about feeling sexy, having consensual sex, feeling desire, or receiving pleasure.
Sexy is always in the room, whether you want to acknowledge it or not. The first step to reauthoring a woman’s ability to be sexy, smart and successful is to get crystal clear on what feeling sexy means to you. For me, the best way to feel sexy at the office is to bring my confidence and influence with me! That means getting a good night’s sleep, doing work I’m passionate about, and applying all the Boardroom skills we’ve been learning. Sexy is when I get angry, when I insist on my own self-care, and when I let my hair run wild. When I eat well, connect with community, and take responsibility for my own wants I feel sexy.
Sexy is about bringing your life force energy to what you do so that you feel irresistibly radiant. It’s the feeling of being exactly who you are, 100% authentically you. It’s a wild and intuitive instinctual nature. It’s the source of your inherent power of creation. This vitality is what sexy looks like on my terms. What does sexy look like on your terms?
